How to get rid of inflating car tires
Every tire that we use in our vehicles leaks air. Tire leaks air whenever a vehicle hits potholes mostly by leaking it from sidewalls. As a result most of the time we are driving under-inflated tires. More than 40% of all vehicles have underinflated tires.
Low tire pressure results into
1. Hard vehicle handling and safety
2. More fuel consumption
3. Tyre life reduces
4. CO2 emissions
But now an advanced engineering solution is available known as a self-inflating tire (SIT) system. This system is already installed in the tires from the manufacturer’s end. The system consists of parts such as a pressure regulator (mechanical or electric), air intake valve followed by filter connected to the peristaltic chamber consisting of the valve. Also, an air-line consisting of air is passing through the middle periphery of the tire connecting the peristaltic chamber.
Working
As the vehicle moves, the rotation of the wheel creates a force on the tire thereby pressurizing the air-line which leads to the formation of pressure pulses in the tire. Hence monitoring these pressure pulses enables the sensor to know the tire pressure. It just circulates the air pulse created if the tire pressure detected is ok.
If tire pressure is detected low, then a valve in the peristaltic chamber opens up (generally closed) from where atmospheric air enters the tire. This air is filtered so that no dust or air particle enters into the tire. When the air is entering the tire, it passes through an airline whose one end is connected to the valve and the other end is inside the tire. Once the required amount of pressure is achieved, the valve automatically closes, and two ends of the airline meet. Thereby again circulating air pulses. Thus in this way tires can be said to be self-inflating.
Advantages of tire inflating system
1. Safety
2. Fuel economy
3. Tire longevity
4. Convenience
5. Low Variable Costs
6. Less heat generation in tires
